On this relatively remote beach in Chiapas, Southern Mexico it became a common occurance to find myself alone on the entire beach while I frolicked in the pounding surf witnessing empty barrel after empty barrel unload around me.
I spent almost six months in 2016 volunteering at Mexican based children's surf refuge Mision Mexico in Tapachula, Chiapas. I hoped to capture the happiness and true character of these wonderful kids with my first real attempt at portrait photography with my Sony Alpha A6000. Some of my favourite images to date. I have always enjoyed watching the Albatrosses in Mexico gracefully cruise up and down the beaches and often riding in the slipstream of the waves until pulling out at the last moment before the wave finally crashes on the shore.
Captured with a Sony A6000 and Sigma 30mm FX DN Art Prime Lens.
Portrait photography is an area I have been dabbling with recently and hope to move more into in the near future. I feel that bringing the human element into a beautiful scene really makes it come alive and the instantly we are able to relate more closely to the image. I strive to combine beautiful people with beautiful, unique, vibrant and colourful backdrops in a sophisticated and stylish way.
I spent almost six months in 2016 volunteering at Mexican based children's surf refuge Mision Mexico in Tapachula, Chiapas. While it was an amazing but highly challenging time I definitely had a truly rewarding time working with these funny, kind, caring, at times volatile but always happy and kind hearted kids. Since it's inception over 15 years ago Mision Mexico has given over 250 abused, abandoned and homeless children a 2nd chance with their lives by giving them not only surfboards but also a home and education. The golden hour where mother nature works here magic by perfectly mixing water with light to create some of the most beautiful visuals which you will ever witness. Enjoy some of my favourite sunsets from throughout the Latin Americas.
Nicaragua, one of my favourite countries in the Latin Americas. Combine a uniquely fascinating culture, amazing welcoming people, world class surf, lush jungles, towering volcanoes and colonial charm and you have yourself a perfect recipe for adventure.
Perfectly imperfect Cuba. Cuba has been stuck in a time warp and is only just awaking from it's slumber. This unique political, social and economic environment in which Cuba has existed for the past half century has nurtured a truly unique country and culture unlike anywhere else on the planet.
This beautifully unique nation completely blew me away and Peru has easily become one of the major highlights of my Latin American adventures. Whats not to love about Peru? I scored some of the best waves of my life here and I also experienced one of what I believe is the most fascinating and unique countries in the world largely thanks to its spell binding Inca heritage, breathtaking natural beauty and the open, friendly and happy Peruvian people. You have to visit Peru at least once in your life be it to experience the world class waves or unique culture on offer there. Now try giving me one good reason why not to make Peru your next surf travel destination?
I originally shot both surf and lifestyle photos with a Gopro for over two years. Here you will find a selection of my favourite surf photos captured with a Gopro. One powerful feature of using a Gopro for shooting surf is the ability to shoot 30 shots in one second as well as some cool results gained by the slow shutter affect in low light. I also strived to push the capabilites of the Gopro by utilising Dome Ports for the over/under affect as well as the ridiclous challenge of night surf shots utilising a manual handheld flash.
I took my Sigma 19mm prime lens for it's first test run in the slabby shorey in El Tunco, El Salvador and here are the results.
Here you will find a selection of some of my favourite lifestyle and landscape photos captured with a Gopro.
The majority of people view a Gopro primarily as a compact video camera and many write off or don't even know of it's true photo taking capabilities. However, with a little know how and the use of various accessories the results can be truly head turning. Pictured are a variety of some of my favourite shots achieved with various gopro settings and the use of accesories such as manual hand held flashes, dome ports and Neutral Density filters (for the slow shutter affect), polarizers and Macro lenses. As you can see you can really achieve a great variety of shots with a Gopro.
